GluxalKeymasterThailand just introduced the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for remote workers, freelancers, and digital nomads. Have you applied or considered applying? What do you think about the requirements, benefits, and the 5-year validity? Share your thoughts, questions, or experiences!
Lara_WandersGuestWhy I’m Packing My Bags for Thailand – My DTV Story
I’m Lara, a freelance UX designer from Berlin, and yes—I’ve already started my DTV application!
It all started with a coconut coffee in Chiang Mai last November. I was on a short trip, soaking in the slow pace and friendly faces, when I overheard two digital nomads talking about how Thailand might launch a long-term visa for remote workers. At the time, it felt like wishful thinking. Fast forward to April 2025, and the DTV is real—and honestly, it feels like a door to a dream.
The 5-year validity was the hook. I’ve done the visa-run dance in Southeast Asia before—it’s exhausting. With the DTV, I don’t have to think about border hopping every 30 days. Plus, being able to bring family members? That’s a huge bonus. My partner, who’s also a freelancer, is considering applying too.
The requirements felt reasonable to me. Proving income, showing remote work credentials—nothing too invasive. It actually made me feel like Thailand values the contribution remote workers can bring without making it a bureaucratic nightmare.
My only question is: will the popularity of this visa change the vibe of certain places like Pai or Koh Lanta? I love the peacefulness there, and I hope the charm doesn’t get lost if the crowds grow.
Overall, I’m all in. The DTV gives me a stable base in a country I love, with food I crave, and sunsets I never get tired of photographing. Anyone else making the move soon?
